I viewed a juvenile Sora beside a naturalized pond in a backyard garden
in East York this morning (Sunday). Bird was very cooperative, easily
seen and has been there for four days. Only problem with giving
directions is the family dog. If you would like to see this bird
contact Lois for a time and directions. Her email is [EMAIL PROTECTED]
On a different note there was a good selection of shorebirds including 8
juvenile Short-billed Dowitchers on lots of mud at Frenchman's Bay.
Lighting is an issue in the morning but a visit to the West Hill
Community Center on Bayly between Whites and Liverpool Road could yield
good shorebirding. Bring rubber boots. The mud is accessed from a trail
that starts at the southeast corner of the community center parking and
crosses about 100 feet of cattails.
Directions to Frenchman's Bay - from 401 east from Scarborough, exit at
Whites Road left on Bayly. Look for a one story rec center as you drive
slowly downhill. Turn right and park in the back left corner of the
parking lot.

I spent only 1 hour on a cool cloudy Monday morning at the north and =
south platforms on the west side of Cranberry Marsh in southwest Whitby.
2 "local" young Turkey Vultures came down to perch atop a nearby dead =
tree.
On the wetlands in front of the south platform-- 3 Green Herons (2 =
adult), 9 Black-crowned Night-Herons (4 full adults), Wood Duck, =
Gadwall, Virginia Rail, 15 Great Blue Herons, 3 Great Egrets
From the north platform--1 Willet, at least 40 Great Blue Herons, 1 =
Short-billed Dowitcher, and many shorebirds that I did not concentrate =
on.
Between now and Aug.25, if you observe any migrating raptors at =
Cranberry, PLEASE report them to me. The official start to the Raptor =
Watch is Saturday, Aug.25=20
From the Brock Rd. exit off the 401, go east along Bayly, right through =
LakeRidge Rd. in Whitby to the first street--Hall's Rd., south towards =
the lake, pulling in to either the north or south roadside parking =
areas.

Hi All,
Today, Monday Aug. 20, my wife & I visited the Grimsby Sewage Lagoons from
1:30-2:30 PM.
A first year Black Tern was observed flying above the south pond. Many
swallows were annoyed with its presence and pestered the tern as it flew
back & forth over the pond. An immature Black-crowned Night-Heron was also
observed flying over the south pond.
In the north pond, we observed the following:
16 Short-billed Dowitcher
10 Lesser Yellowlegs
16 Caspian Tern
Least Sandpiper
Killdeer
Directions: Exit Fifty Rd. from the QEW, head north on Fifty Rd. Turn
right at the N. Service Rd. and then turn left onto Kelson Ave. N. Turn
right on Winston Rd. The lagoons are located on the left hand side between
the MND lands and the radio towers. There will be a regional building with
a small area for parking. Park off to the side of the building. Footpaths
are visible behind the building and will lead you to the two lagoons.
