Birders,
Not much has shown up at Blenheim in the past month, but a Marbled Godwit
was feeding in pond 5 of the Lagoons this morning. (The last one reported
to my knowledge, was a very early one this summer on July 8). Other
shorebirds included Baird's (2), 1 Solitary, 1 Wilson's Snipe, and several
of Pectoral, Semipalmated Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper, Lesser Yellowlegs.
There were also 3 imm. Black-crowned Night-Herons.
Rondeau Park was excellent for migrants this morning with at least 18
species of warblers seen by myself. There was a large number of Red-eyed
Vireos and Red-breasted Nuthatches in the park. The only notable flycatcher
was an Olive-sided on south point trail.
I still did not locate and Buff-breasted Sandpipers! An American
Golden-Plover was in the onion fields near McGeachy Pond.
Lagoon Directions: Exit 401 at #90 (Communications Rd.) and head into
Blenheim. At the main stoplight turn right (west) onto Rd. 3. Travel about
1.5 km and turn right (north) onto Lagoon Rd. at the carwash, and continue
north about 1 km to gate. You must have an annual permit to enter.
Available at the Municipal Service Centre, 35 Talbot St. in Blenheim,
during business hours, fax (519) 676-0244.
