Winds were light for the most part from the east becoming southeast by midday. Visibility overall was very good but there was a definite buildup of humidity in the mid afternoon. Temperatures peaked in the mid 80s (30C). Raptor Observations: A very slow early start gave way to a very steady flight by mid morning. As with the last couple of days, Sharpies dominated the movement but there was a decent flight of Broad-wings and Kestrels during the middle portions of the day. Highlighting the day overall was the first 3 Peregrines recorded for the season which included the first and last birds tallied for the day. Non-raptor Observations: As noted by other observers in the southern part of state recently, Red-breasted Nuthatches are around now with several seen and heard at the watch today. Monarchs continued to move in numbers and outnumbered every other migrant except perhaps Purple Martins during the early part of the day. I suspect some number roosted in the park overnight as there seemed to be a modest lift off of them during my early morning wanderings on the Cherry Island trail. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Calvin Brennan ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.smrr.net/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
