Winds varied from east-northeast to east-southeast and were generally light but occasionally a bit stronger. As seen by the moving cloud layers, upper level winds were actually from the south and southwest. Raptor Observations: As might be expected with such unstable air masses, the flight was perhaps a bit slow at times but there were definite pulses of activity, particularly later in the day when skies were generally clearer than at any other time. While the flight might not have been as heavy as anticipated after the passing of frontal system overnight, overall it was still not too bad of a day given the early date. Non-raptor Observations: Monarchs were without a doubt the most numerous migrant seen today, moving steady throughout the day and many at altitude. There was a good bit of warbler feeding activity in the afternoon in the maples and the lone spruce near the count area at the boat launch. Most numerous were Cape Mays and Blackpolls and a single Palm was noted along with several Red-eyed Vireos. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Calvin Brennan ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.smrr.net/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
