Hello Ontbirders There was a Grey-cheeked Thrush in the woodlot north-west of Tunney's Pasture today at lunchtime (the woodlot of Prothonotary Warbler fame). The thrush was on the south side of the northern-most trail that runs east-west between Island Park and the path that is the continuation of Carleton Ave. This narrow trail runs parallel to and just a few dozen metres south of the Ottawa River Parkway. The bird was closer to the Carleton end. The were also at least 2 Swainson's Thrushes in the general area. That was about it for excitement, other than a few whitethroats and common warblers. Yesterday the place was jumping with migrants, including 9 species of warblers, among which was a Wilson's.
Note for those who may plan to visit this spot in the coming days but who don't want to spend too much time here: the aforementioned northernmost east-west trail is generally, in my experience, the most productive area. Paul Matthews, Ottawa Directions: From hwy 417 west (The Queensway) follow Island Park Drive north approx 2km to Clearview (last street before the Parkway and Ottawa River). Turn right onto Clearview one short block, then left onto Patricia for parking and entrance to the wooded area's trails. Follow the trail north (towards the river) until you come to the trails that go east: the main wide one and, a few metres further north, a narrow secondary one. The bird was along the latter trail. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
