I saw the Northern Wheatear on Wolfe Island between 1pm and 3pm on Sat.,
Sep.15th. It is in non-breeding plumage, quite cinnamon-coloured, the rump
is boldly white whenever it flies short distances, and it bobs its tail a
lot.
It was unwary and quite approachable. I got the feeling that it is well
fed and quite content, and will hang around for some time.

DIRECTIONS: take the free Wolfe Island Ferry from downtown Kingston. The
ferry dock is on Ontario Street, a bit north of the intersection with Queen
Street.
After getting off at Marysville on Wolfe Island, turn right (westbound) on
the main street for a couple of blocks say, then turn left (south) on
Hwy.95. Travel about 2km to Baseline Road, and now turn right (westbound).
Proceed on Baseline for about 2km to the intersection with 4th Line. Turn
right (north) onto 4th Line and drive 150 meters north [MapArt does not
correctly show this northern portion of 4th Line]. Park off the side,
opposite a tractor lane that goes left (west) into a field with two clusters
of round hay bales. It never flew out to the distant cluster.
It spends most of its time just inside this open tractor lane. Walk just 15
meters into this field, then look right (north). It is often sitting on top
of four 30m long rows of round hay bales that run north along the grove of
trees that parallel the 4th Line. It was right on top of these of hay bales
feeding on insects that it runs down.
The bird can also be found anywhere along 4th Line from this spot south for
say 75 meters, either on fence posts or right on the gravel of 4th Line.
