Weather:
Sunny conditions prevailed throughout the day today with cumulous clouds
building up nicely in the afternoon providing excellent conditions overall
for hawk-watching. Winds were generally out of the west becoming somewhat
strong and gusty by late morning and throughout the afternoon. 

 




Raptor Observations:
After a somewhat slow start, the flight picked up nicely by mid morning and
continued steady even into the early evening. Typical of days with west
dominated winds; birds were spread over the whole of the sky. Much of the
early movement was knocked down by the gusty winds and many birds passed by
low, but as the thermal- producing cumulous developed quite a bit of the
flight became very high, but overall there was a good mix of low and high
birds. Today was really the first time that mixed kettles of several
species were seen, a usual occurrence as the flights become more and more
vulture-dominated.
