Conditions overall were humid and hazy reducing visibility although this improved somewhat in the afternoon. Winds were light to moderate east-southeast for much of the day. Raptor Observations: After a very slow start there was more or less a steady trickle of birds from about mid morning onward dominated by Accipiters. The last couple of days have seen a shift in the ratio of Sharpies to Coopers Hawks as the migration for the latter species picks up, a typical scenario for this time of year. The only TV group of any size was recorded late in the day when conditions were at their clearest, making one wonder if they were going by undetected well to the north during the hazier portions of the day. Non-raptor Observations: Even during todays warm hazy conditions, Blue Jays moved steadily throughout the day. There were quite a few Monarchs noted as well, certainly a few dozen but probably more. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Calvin Brennan ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.smrr.net/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
