Skies were generally sunny with clouds building up in the afternoon as a weak front moved through the area accompanied by a brief shower. Winds were southwest during the morning switching sharply to the southeast and picking up in the afternoon as the front passed through, dropping and returning to southwest by days end. Raptor Observations: While the flight overall was fairly slow there was a definite pulse of activity as the weather system moved through in the middle of the day, perhaps sparked by the rapid build up of cumulous clouds and corresponding thermals ahead of the front. Surprisingly perhaps is that only a few modest kettles of TVs were noted during the day although there were some sizable ones reported from observers in transit from more northerly locations. Personally Im of the opinion that the unsettled weather grounded much of the vulture numbers to the northeast. Highlighting the day, as has been the norm over the last week or so, were some excellent views of several Peregrines that flew overhead during the day today. Non-raptor Observations: Not to sound too repetitive, Blue Jays continued to move in numbers along with goodly numbers of Tree Swallows and Chimney Swifts. A couple of hummingbirds were noted as well as one or two Pine Siskins. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Calvin Brennan ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.smrr.net/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
