Winds were light and variable early becoming moderate to fairly strong and gusty west-southwest by late morning. Raptor Observations: While the Sharpie flight was steady throughout the day, it took awhile for other birds to really get going because of the overcast conditions during much of the morning. The TV movement assembled rather quickly once the skies brightened in late morning with the largest push of birds for the entire day coming through around the noon hour. The afternoon passage was in pulses of birds, which seems to be a theme with our vulture flight of late rather than a continuous movement of birds that is more typical of large movements of vultures. There was another good push near the end of the day, the norm for the species at this peak time. Highlighting the day overall was our first Golden Eagle of the season, a life bird for several of the folks at the watch today. Bald Eagles were also very much in evidence today as well with several individuals in view at any given time throughout much of the afternoon. Non-raptor Observations: Large numbers of Tree Swallows continue to migrate through the area along with some lingering Rough-wings and Chimney Swifts. Some new arrivals to the area the last couple of days have been White-crowned Sparrow and Lapland Longspur. Altogether about 20 or so Monarchs were noted today. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Calvin Brennan ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.smrr.net/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
