A juvenile Northern Gannet continued to be seen off Van Wagners Beach in Hamilton by myself and a number of others this afternoon (Nov. 12). The bird was first spotted about 2:30 pm and was still there at 3:00. It was actively feeding by plunge diving about one km offshore amongst a feeding frenzy of gulls, mergansers, cormorants and loons. Every time the Gannet took flight it was chased by a large throng of gulls. Nice action.
Directions: To reach Van Wagners Beach, take the Centennial Parkway (Hwy.20) exit from the QEW in east Hamilton and proceed north to the North Service Rd., turn left and continue west as it turns into Van Wagners Road. Continue to the parking lots at either Hutch's Restaurant or the Lakeland Centre viewing tower and view the lake anywhere near here. Rob Dobos Dundas, ON [EMAIL PROTECTED]
