Between 2 and 3 this afternoon I walked the perimeter of the Nonquon Sewage Lagoons.
A Northern Shrike was hunting at the east end of the lagoons. Birds in abundance included Mallards, Bufflehead, Bonaparte's Gulls, Canada Geese and Shovelers. The shorebirds were 8 Killdeer, 3 Common Snipe, 1 Greater Yellowlegs, 7 Lesser Yellowlegs, 4 Stilt Sandpipers, 2 Dunlin and 1 Pectoral Sandpiper. The following waterfowl were also present: 2 Black Ducks, 5 Pintail, 5 Trumpeter Swans and 1 female Long-tailed Duck. Bob Hartley. The lagoons are accessible from the 8th concession (2 miles north of highway 7A in Port Perry). The gate is locked. Access is only possible with a $5.00 or 10.00 permit purchased at the Recycling Depot on the 7th concession or Reach St. Port Perry is on Highway # 7A at the south end of Scugog Lake, and about 28 miles north of Whitby. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
