Folks, Another short trip for me (after yesterday's "goose" day) netted not 1 but 2 immature Northern Gannets amidst a feeding frenzy of gulls.
I first headed to the south end of Guelph Line in Burlington when I spotted a massive swarm of gulls closer to the skyway and lift bridge, after scanning the flock for about 10 minutes I spotted my first Gannet at around 11am as it circled and dove several times, I then headed further west to an empty parking lot at 2100 Old Lakeshore Rd., just east of the Venture Inn where I was pretty-much in line with one of the Gannets about 250m out and had it resting on the lake in some pretty big waves. As it flew closer to the lighthouse at the end of the Burlington pier I suddenly had two Gannets in my scope view both circling & diving together, what a great sight! Burlington lies along the north shore of western Lake Ontario, Guelph Line is one of the exits off the QEW, head south to the end where it meets the lake and a little parkette.
