Following Brian Mortimer's posting, I ventured to Fletcher Wildlife Gardens this afternoon in Ottawa and was happy I did. The Bohemian Waxwing flock was still hanging around near one of the feeders at the Gardens. My goal was to get a good photo of them but unfortunately they stayed near the top of the trees. I was also thrilled to see at least 10 Northern Cardinals at one of the feeders as well as several Dark Eyed Juncos feeding on the ground.
Directions (copied from Brian Mortiner's message) Directions borrowed from Chris Lewis; >From downtown Ottawa, ON, take Preston St. south until it becomes Prince of Wales Dr. at Dow's Lake, continue south and look for the sign on your left indicating the Fletcher Wildlife Garden. The FWG Interpretive Centre (#138) is at the very end of the driveway..but there are many areas worth exploring here for birds, including those at the nearby Arboretum of the Central Experimental Farm. The Oregon Junco has also been seen by the feeders at the south side of the FWG (opposite Carleton University), as well as at the Arboretuem near building #72. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
