Hi Everyone
Finch numbers continue to increase in the Ottawa area. Today, despite the snow storm I was able to get out and had a few flock of Pine Grosbeaks and Common Redpolls along Old Carp Road near Huntmar Road. Also, I saw a few small flocks of Bohemian Waxwings along March Road near Shirley's Brook Road. Yesterday, December 2nd, I observed 5 Gray Partridge feeding under a spruce tree at 300 Maple Grove Road off Terry Fox Drive in Kanata. The Ottawa River froze over between December 2nd and 3rd, last winter it finally froze on January 19th. On December 1st at Dick Bell Park there were a number of late lingering water birds including 2 White-winged Scoter, 1 Black Scoter, 1 Surf Scoter, 1 Snow Goose and at Shirley's Bay boat launch 1 Red-necked Grebe, 1 Common Loon, both Greater and Lesser Scaup, 1 Ring-necked Duck, a very late female Redhead, and 4 adult Bald Eagles. On December 2nd at Deschenes Rapids I observed an immature Double-crested Cormorant sitting on a exposed rock.
                                                       good birding, Bruce
