Sorry I didn't get this out earlier. This species is getting more common on
Lake ontario though so I don't imagine it will be anyone's last chance to see
them this winter.

Yesterday at about 4:15pm I saw a Harlequin duck (first winter type from what I
could see between the crashing waves) in Port Hope. The bird was off "Port
Hope west beach" which is beside Cameco (Eldorado as it was once known) the
uranuium refinery. This individual was right at the tip of the breakwall where
they ave been found in the past few years at this time. I saw one there in
late November but that one appeared to be an adult female.

To get there get off the 401 at the first Port Hope exit if heading east or the
2nd exit if heading west. Follow this road (Toronto Rd.) south to the lights.
Turn left at the lights (Ridout St.). Follow to John St. and turn right onto
John St. Continue on John until you've gone under the railroad bridge. At
this T juction go right (Hayward St.). Follow past Via station until you come
to another T junction. Go left onto this road (Marsh St.) and folow (at the
turn the road becomesEldorado Place). Follow this road past the front doors
and parking lot of Cameco. On the right will be a beach with a breakwall.
This is where it was.

Cheers,
Ben Walters
