Hi Ontbirders,

I thought winter listers would be interested to know that the Ruddy Turnstone is still hanging in on Gull Island at Presqu'ile. Today (1100h) it was feeding on some frozen algae flats about 3 m from waters' edge along the SE corner of the island. For a time it was foraging with a small flock of Snow Buntings making one wonder if these are all Baffin Island nest mates. About another 100m west from here along the south shore is where there was one Purple Sandpiper. Two American Pipits were also on Gull Island - one on the spit connecting Gull Is. to Owen Pt., and another about mid-way along Gull Is. in the vegetated centre.

Cheers,

Doug

Directions: Presqu'ile is located south of Brighton, and is signed from Hwy 401 or 2. Birders need to remember that Owen Pt. and the islands are off limits to park visitors on the four hunting days each week (Sat., Mon., Wed., Fri.) so plan your visits accordingly. The walking is a bit tricky as well due to all the ice covering the shore so wear boots with a good tread..
