Hi Ontario birders and others
The Gray Catbird mentioned by Bruce Di Labio in his message, was in an area near the Rideau River North of the Hurdman transitway bus station. There was also a Hermit Thrush in the same area. Directions: there are many ways to get there: - the easiest way would be by bus; take a bus that goes to the Hurdman station; from there take the path that goes North along the utility line and posts; at the last post before you reach the large path close to the river, there is a small bird feeders station; both birds have been seen in that area as well as along the large path within some 100 meters going West; - by car, from the Queensway take the exit to Mann - Lees Ave (a bit complicated depending on the direction you are going on the Queensway - study your map), go East on Lees, turn right before the pass over the Queensway and enter the Algonquin College Lees Campus; drive to the North-East end part of the parking lot (beware of the deep snow - I got sutcked for a while yesterday); walk across the River on the bicycle-foot path bridge, go right for about 200 meters, following the utility posts; once the untility posts go though the forest, you are in the area; - by car, from the Queensway take the Vanier Parkway exit, go North on the Parkway, turn left on Queen Mary, and left on N River Rd; drive to the end of N River Rd; park and walk in the South direction on the path along the River, pass under the Hurdman Bridge and continue passed the bicycle path bridge for about 200 meters, following the utility posts; once the untility posts go though the forest, you are in the area; - your best chance to see the birds is when they fly; they seem to visit berry trees and bushes in that area. Good luck to any one trying for these birds and let me know if you will, whether or not you see them.
