Highlights of reports received December 13 through December 20 from the Niagara Frontier Region include Niagara River GULLS and WATERFOWL.

Ten gull species plus one hybrid gull this week on the Niagara River; all observed from the Ontario side of the river. December 14, BLACK-HEADED GULL was found again among the BONAPARTE'S GULLS at the railroad bridge in Fort Erie. Above Niagara Falls, 5 ICELAND GULLS, 3 GLAUCOUS GULLS and a hybrid GLAUCOUS GULL X HERRING GULL, known as "NELSON'S GULL". Also at the falls, a distant PURPLE SANDPIPER in the shallow rapids. Up to 7 ICELAND GULLS and a passing flock of COMMON REDPOLLS at the power plant overlook on the lower river. At Queenston, 2 LITTLE GULLS and 2 THAYER'S GULLS, plus TUFTED TITMOUSE, GOLDEN-CR. KINGLET, NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD and YELLOW-R. WARBLER. And late in the day, over 4000 BONAPARTE'S GULLS flying-by Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Waterfowl on the Niagara River at Fort Erie were highlighted by a hybrid HOODED MERGANSER X COMMON GOLDENEYE at Miller Road, and a NORTHERN PINTAIL at Fort Erie. Also, 139 TUNDRA SWANS, 18 AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS, 75 REDHEADS, 14 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, 120 LONG-TAILED DUCKS, 900 BUFFLEHEADS and 300 COMMON MERGANSERS, plus HORNED GREBE, 3 WILD TURKEYS and CAROLINA WREN. At the falls, 52 GADWALL and 16 AMERICAN WIGEONS. Numbers of LONG-TAILED DUCKS are increasing on the lower river at Lewiston and Queenston. And in Buffalo, at LaSalle Park, 25 RING-NECKED DUCKS and 2 each of HOODED MERGANSER and RUDDY DUCK.

Late report of COMMON RAVEN still on Francis Road in the Genesee County Town of Bethany, plus COMMON REDPOLLS and PINE SISKINS

Other reports this week - PEREGRINE FALCONS on the Niagara River - 2 at the falls, and one atop the Reef Lighthouse off LaSalle Park. From Amherst, at a feeder in Williamsville, a female OREGON JUNCO with RED-BELLIED WDPKR., TUFTED TITMOUSE, RED-BR. NUTHATCH, AMER. TREE SPARROW and WHITE- THR. SPARROW. SNOW BUNTINGS on Grand Island and over Shirley Avenue in Buffalo. And, single LAPLAND LONGSPURS among small flocks of SNOW BUNTINGS on Stage Road in the Town of Newstead and Belknap Road in the Town of Eden.
