The 2nd unofficial Linwood CBC was held Saturday, December 22.  The count
circle is centred on the town of Linwood (northwest of Waterloo).  Most of
the circle is agricultural land and this is a traditional area for wintering
raptors.  16 field observers tallied 49 species this year (up from 46 when
we did it in 2003).  Here are the highlights:
 
Greater Scaup 1
Red-shouldered Hawk 1 (returning bird in Hawkesville)
Ring-necked Pheasant count week
Short-eared Owl 2
Meadowlark spp 2
Pine Grosbeak 32
Hoary Redpoll 2
 
High counts:
Red-tailed Hawk 108
Rough-legged Hawk 119 (75 light, 44 dark)
Wild Turkey 55
Red-bellied Woodpecker 5
Northern Shrike 8
