The female Harlequin Duck, which has been seen regularly in December
was seen in the open water portion below the Ontario side of Dechenes
Rapids yesterday and today around 4 pm both days. I have observed this
bird for the first time on December 9th at the upper portion of the
rapids on the Quebec side but wrongly identified it as a female
Bufflehead due to poor visibility at the end of the day.

Today, two male Common Mergansers were in the same waters.

Directions thanks to previous lister Jon Pleizier
Dechenes Rapids: Follow Island Park Drive north and cross the
Champlain Bridge. Turn left onto Lucerne and follow to Vanier. Turn
left on Vanier which will reach the rapids. Walk along the trail to
the left(downstream) past the island. The female Harlequin Duck is
near or below the shallow rocks on the Ottawa side.
