At 11 a.m. today (Sun) there were 10 bluebirds near the railway crossing at Beare Ponds in Scarborough. Two non-birders told us that these "blue birds" had been around the ponds for some time and that they had seen them a number of times whilst walking around there. Also seen was a skittish flock of ~75 common redpolls. To get to Beare Ponds go north on Meadowvale from Sheppard and follow the signs as if you were to be visiting the zoo. When you get to the traffic lights at the top of the hill, turn right (NOT LEFT, which would take you into the zoo). After about 200 m, park on the side of the road by Pearse House. Walk down the straight road about 1 km when you arrive at the ponds and the railway crossing. Alec Dobson _________________________________________________________________ Exercise your brain!
