Highlights of reports from the past two weeks, January 3 to January 16, include BLACK-HEADED GULL, SNOWY OWL, BOHEMIAN WAXWING, RED-HEADED WDPKR., and BL.-CR. NIGHT-HERONS.

January 15 on the upper Niagara River in Buffalo, an adult BLACK-HEADED GULL with 1000 BONAPARTE'S GULLS and one LITTLE GULL, at the marina off Austin Street at Niagara Street in Riverside. This is the same BLACK-HEADED GULL that was at Fort Erie, Ontario, back in November.

Back on January 5, a BLACK-LEG. KITTIWAKE and 15 ICELAND GULLS on the lower Niagara River at the Beck Overlook in Ontario. Above Niagara Falls on the same date, THAYER'S GULL, ICELAND GULL, L. BLACK-B. GULL and GLAUCOUS GULL. At the whirlpool cable car crossing, two MERLINS.

Two SNOWY OWL reports - January 10, at Woodlawn Beach State Park on Lake Erie in Hamburg, and January 13, on Lake Ontario, a SNOWY OWL at Point Breeze in the Town of Carlton.

January 5, two BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS, plus NORTHERN FLICKER, PILEATED WOODPECKER and NORTHERN SHRIKE, on Owens-Bartel Road in the Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area. Six BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS January 12, in the Niagara County Town of Newfane. The BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were with 300 CEDAR WAXWINGS and 10 AMERICAN ROBINS in an orchard on Route 18, a mile or so east of Olcott.

In the Town of Clarence, a juvenile RED-HEADED WDPKR. and a NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD have been regulars at a feeder by the swamp bordered by Shimerville Road and Gunnvile Road, north of Wherle Drive. In the past, an adult RED-HEADED WDPKR. and a pair of PILEATED WOODPECKERS.

January 13, in North Tonawanda, a winter record count of 30 BL.-CR. NIGHT-HERONS at the Tonawanda Island marina off River Road.

Other recent reports - a pair of BALD EAGLES in the Town of Concord, at the creek near the intersection of Routes 39 and 219. On the Black Rock Canal at LaSalle Park in Buffalo, a good count of 45 RING-NECKED DUCKS plus CANVASBACK, GREATER SCAUP, LESSER SCAUP, LONG-TAILED DUCK,BUFFLEHEAD, COMMON GOLDENEYE and AMERICAN COOT. On Ditch Road near the Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area, 7 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS. COMMON REDPOLLS at numerous feeders - 50 in the Wyoming County Town of Orangeville, 35 COMMON REDPOLLS with 25 PINE SISKIN in Orchard Park, and small numbers of COMMON REDPOLLS on Grand Island and at the Iroquois Refuge headquarters. And, at a feeder in Lockport, an albino AMERICAN GOLDFINCH.
