Hello Ontbirders,

My Dad and I were out birding in the Ottawa area this
morning. Most impressive were the gull numbers around
the Trail Road Dump area. Something really good is
bound to turn up with these numbers:

Glaucous Gull 75++
Iceland Gull 45+
Thayer's Gull 1 adult
Lesser Black-backed Gull 1 adult
Great Black-backed Gull 600+
Herring Gull 3000

The birds were all roosting on the Moodie Road ponds
at 9 am and soon after started making their way in
groups over to the dump.

Other interesting birds seen this morning:
Red-shouldered Hawk - still present off Huntmar Road
near Old Carp Road. Best viewed from Gourley Road.
Townsend's Solitaire - still present at 7 Millbrook
Crescent.
Great Horned Owl - sitting on sign for Constance Bay
(along Dunrobin Road) after dark. Hooting every night
for a couple of weeks now.

Yesterday there were over 400 Bohemian Waxwings
feeding on berries and grit along Rifle Road near
Shirleys Bay. An adult Northern Goshawk sat for great
looks mid-way along Rifle Road.

For directions to Moodie Road ponds go to:
<http://ca.geocities.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/stony8.htm>

Directions to the Red-shouldered Hawk: Take Huntmar
Road to the intersection with Old Carp Road. Turn west
and follow to Gourlay Lane.

Directions to Solitaire: From Fletcher Wildlife
Gardens, take Prince of Wales Drive south to
Meadowlands Drive. Turn right (west) on Meadowlands
and continue to Deer Park Road (one block past Fisher
Avenue). Turn right on Deer Park Road. Steve
MacLean/Long Park is on the corner of Meadowlands and
Deer Park. Millbrook Crescent is 0.5 km north on Deer
Park.

Good birding!
