Tundra Swan Pied-billed Grebe Ruffed Grouse Great Blue Heron Bald Eagle Cooper's Hawk Red-tailed Hawk Merlin American Coot Glaucous Gull Great Horned Owl Short-eared Owl Northern Shrike Common Raven Horned Lark Winter Wren Golden-crowned Kinglet Eastern Bluebird American Robin Bohemian Waxwing Cedar Waxwing Swamp Sparrow White-crowned Sparrow Snow Bunting Red-winged Blackbird Brown-headed Cowbird Pine Grosbeak Common Redpoll A quiet week again here in Hamilton. A number of new winter birds arrived this week with these ever changing weather conditions. This week on Wednesday an AMERICAN WIGEON was found in the Desjardins Canal. A Pied-billed Grebe has overwintered here. An American Coot and Red-winged Blackbird were reported in the week. At LaSalle Park during the week 6 Tundra Swans visited during the week along with 3 American Wigeon. The NORTHERN HAWK OWL remains at the scene on 10th Road East. At dusk the Short-eared Owls fly with two being seen this week at this location. Friday morning 6 Bohemian Waxwings passed through a yard in North Halton. Last Sunday about 20 Pine Grosbeaks were found at the intersection 15 SR and 4th Line in North Halton. Continuing on the winter wanderers list, large flocks of Common Redpolls have been reported this week in various places throughout Halton, Ancaster and Flamborough. I'm sure that we will continue to see these large flocks moving around and eventually heading back north. Snow Buntings are also on the move with a large flock of 500 being seen in the southern outskirts of the HSA. The McCormack Trail was still a great place to hike this week with Great Horned Owl, Cooper's Hawk, Cedar Waxwings, American Robins, Northern Shrike and Golden Crowned Kinglets being seen. Out in the Willows Great Blue Heron, Bald Eagle (imm), Winter Wren, American Robin and Eastern Bluebird were noted. On a tour of Flamborough today, a flock of 16 Horned Larks were seen on Lynden Road north of Concession 4. This would be a great spot for Snow Buntings/Longspurs etc as there is a strip of fresh manure laid in the field. Slightly north of this at Lynden and Ainslie Road a Common Raven was seen and a Ruffed Grouse was nicely viewed behind the Westfield Heritage Centre. In the odds and sods another dark (western) Red-tail was seen near Caledonia. Through the same yard in half an hour a Merlin. A White-crowned Sparrow was seen on 1st Road West in Hamilton near Green Mountain Road. A Brown Headed Cowbird was visiting a feeder on Concession 4 West, just west of Hwy 8. A Swamp Sparrow was seen at the Hendrie Valley along the boardwalk along with an overwintering Red-winged Blackbird. Glaucous Gulls continue to be seen on the bay near Canada Centre for Inland Waters. A number of Bald Eagles are also present here with 4 being seen today. That's the news this week. Keep us updated of your sightings, things will be moving around again I'm sure. Have a great week. Good birding!
