THE OFNC BIRD STATUS LINE @ 8:30 pm, MONDAY FEBRUARY 11, 2008.

Nothing much new on the local birding scene. A couple of our wintering
rarities continue to visit their favoured locations - both the TOWNSEND'S
SOLITAIRE in Parkwood Hills and the TUFTED TITMOUSE in Forest Park (Embrun)
are still around as of February 10th. A male Bufflehead remains on the
Ottawa River, most recently reported from Remic rapids on the 8th, but
there have been no reports of the male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE from the
Ottawa or the Rideau Rivers since the end of January.

Cooper's and Sharp-shinned Hawks are being seen in a variety of locations,
mainly in urban areas as is typical for this time of year, and Merlins were reported
from the Bankfield & Malakoff Rd. area on the 9th and near the
Westgate shopping centre on the 7th. A Snowy Owl was seen flying over
Embrun on the 6th, a Northern Shrike was spotted along Moodie Dr. south of
the Nortel complex on the 8th, and a Hermit Thrush (likely the same bird
found on the Ottawa-Gatineau Christmas Bird Count back on December
16th) was seen again at a feeder near the Rideau River and Hurdman Rd.
on the 8th, along with a good number of Common Redpolls.

Reports from the Quebec side in Gatineau Park as well as along the Low-
Poltimore Rd. included Bald Eagle, Barred Owl and small numbers of both
Pine and Evening Grosbeaks.

Keep getting out there - the birds of spring will be coming back soon!

Thank you - Good Birding!
