Hi everyone,

The dark SNOWY OWL I first reported here on December 6 was again seen this morning on Concession 20 Rd. I also saw a second one on this same road and then a third one a bit north along Concession Rd 19.

For the past month it has been easy to find the owls. Just cruise the roads until you come to an area where there are a dozen or more cars. At this location you will find one of the three owls gulping live mice that have just been hand released.

Most of mice releasers over the last little while have been very responsible making sure that this activity was done away from the road. Today was a different story when one mouse releaser (different from the responsible ones I have seen before) released mice on the opposite side and close to the road. Consequently the owl, after capturing its prey, flew dangerously low over the road back to the field where it was comfortable eating its prey. Some observers noted that it was nearly hit by a car in the process. I did not see this.

DIRECTIONS:

From Hwy 417 east of Casselman take exit 58 and proceed north on Cty Rd 8
for about 1 km until you come to Concession 20 Rd in the middle of the long curve. Turn right (east) on Concession 20 Rd. You will find Concession 19 Rd just north of 20.
