Quick trip to Wolfe Island Sunday morning, 24 Feb 08 and managed to find two SNOWY OWLS perched on opposite sides of the same tree just south of Baseline Rd about halfway between 5th Line and #95. The hawks were not nearly as numerous as previously reported. Saw only one RED-TAILED HAWK and eight ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS. All were found west of #95. In addition, observed HORNED LARKS, SNOW BUNTINGS, MUTE SWANS and two very cooperative RING-NECKED PHEASANTS, the latter just off #95 not too far from the ferry wharf to Cape Vincent. Finally, two coyotes were seen in the field west of the intersection of 9th Line and Carpenter Point Rd. Directions: take the ferry to the island from the foot of Barrack St in downtown Kingston. Cheers, Remy Poulin Ottawa _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
