Weather:
Mixed weather - rainy and drizzle in early part of day, followed by
overcast skies, then sunny periods and then drizzle and back to full cloud
by day's end. Throughout winds were very strong from the south. High
temperature was 15 C.

Raptor Observations:
Good flight - steady all day. Birds were battling winds throughout. Flight
line was variable due to winds. At about 12:07 pm EST a Black Vulture was
seen at a distance of about 200 meters as it flew west then back east at
about 15 meters above the ground. Five observers saw it well. 

Non-raptor Observations:
Lots of evidence of migration - 12 Wood Ducks, 2 Hooded Mergansers, 18
Northern Pintails, 20+ Eastern Bluebirds, 11 Evening Grosbeaks, 2 Fox
Sparrows, 1 Hermit Thrush, 100+ Killdeer, 6 Bonaparte's Gulls, 1 Eastern
Phoebe, 2 Tree Swallows, 9 DC Cormorants and 15 Horned Larks.

Site Description:
Beamer Conservation Area is located on top of the Niagara Escarpment above
the town of Grimsby, Ontario. The site is 1km south of the south shore of
Lake Ontario, 20km east of Hamilton, 40km west of Niagara Falls. 

Directions to site:
To get to Beamer CA, take the QEW to Exit 72, follow Christie St./Mountain
St. to the top of the escarpment, turn right on Ridge Road West, and go
1.6km to Quarry Rd. Turn right on Quarry Rd. and drive 100m to the
conservation area. Parking is normally available inside the park. If
parking at the entrance or on the roads, do NOT leave valuables in your
car.
