Hello Ontbirds people, Today (April 16) a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was swimming in a flooded field on the east side of Frank Kenny Rd., south of Navan, ON among several thousand Canada Geese. It was spotted by Bob Cermak, enjoyed by several others including moi....and is the 1st local report of the season!
Also present at this location were at least 15 Snow Geese. Will the large numbers of Snow Geese reported from east of Ottawa by Jeff Skevington & Brian Morin in the past couple of days drop in closer to Ottawa, or will they just keep heading north? In the general vicinity of Bear Brook north of Carlsbad Springs, the Cobb's Lake Creek flood plain east of Bourget, and the South Nation River at Pendleton, Canada Geese still dominated the scene today, with other waterfowl numbers still rather small and rather low in diversity. We observed 13 spp. of ducks including a pair of Gadwall along Frank Kenny, a few American Wigeon, 5 Northern Shoveler, a slight increase in the numbers of Northern Pintail, Green-winged Teal and Ring-necked Duck, and other expected dabblers & divers. A pair of Sandhill Cranes was again feeding in the cornfields on the west side of Milton Rd. this morning, and the 1st (as far as I know) American Pipit of the year in our area was heard flying over Milton Rd. as well. Good birds to all - and enjoy all those that are still to come! Chris Lewis Ottawa,ON [EMAIL PROTECTED] DIRECTIONS (from Ottawa) for the Gr.
