Greetings all, An emergence of midges brought out the flycatchers down at Hawk Cliff on Monday. We saw Willow Flycatcher, Great Creasted Flycatcher, Eastern Pheobe, Eastern Kingbird, Eastern Wood Pewee, as well as Bank, Barn and Tree Swallows. Also present were Yellow Warblers (we located their nest), and Common Yellowthroat Warblers, Baltimore Orioles, and Ruby-throated Hummingbird as well as other more comon visitors. We also had a Pileated Woodpecker fly over on our way back from Hawk Cliff on Sparta Line near the town of Union.
The humming comming from the grasses down there due to the insects would almost drive you crazy. We also saw a Monarch Butterfly just as we were leaving the area. Cheers, Jennifer London, ON _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
