At Holland Landing Lagoons this morning the 2nd cell was still fairly low and held most of the shorebirds that were present. There were ~20 L.Yellowlegs, 1 G. Yellowlegs, ~20 Least Sandpipers (including 1 JUV), and a few Spotted and Solitary Sandpipers. In the first Cell there was a family of 5 yng & 1 Ad Virginia Rail along the west side near the back. In the 3rd cell there were 14 Bonaparte Gulls. Other then that there were the common species of ducks that were to be expected.
Dave Worthington Directions as per Ron Fleming; These lagoons are just north of Newmarket in the town of Holland Landing, about 30 minutes north of Toronto. Take Yonge St. north through town, then turn east on Cedar St. and drive the short distance to its end. For those considering a visit, please note the following developments, however: there is now a great deal of poison ivy around the unofficial access path on the north side and there is a new No Trespassing sign on the main gate. I have phoned the region to ask about a pass system regarding entry but have yet to hear back. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
