Highlights of reports received July 24 through July 31 from the Niagara Frontier Region include RED CROSSBILL, WHIP-
 POOR-WILL and SANDHILL CRANE.

Following last week's report of 12 RED CROSSBILLS in Orchard Park, on July 25, a flock of 50 RED CROSSBILLS near Lake Ontario, at Oakland Rural Cemetery, on Route 18 in the Niagara County Town of Porter.

July 27 in the Town of Wainfleet, Ontario, 3 WHIP-POOR-WILLS and an AMERICAN WOODCOCK were heard and seen along Wilson Road, bordering the Wainfleet Bog, off Highway 3.

Also in Ontario, at the western edge of the BOS study region, SANDHILL CRANES were reported breeding again this year on the banks of the Grand River, on River Road near South Cayuga Road in the Town of Dunnville. The cranes are said to have been in the area for many years. Shorebirds at Rock Point Park in Dunnville included SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, SANDERLING, LEAST SANDPIPER and SEMIPALM. SANDPIPER, plus 13 winter plumage BONAPARTE'S GULLS and 250 COMMON TERNS.

Back to New York State, at Chestnut Ridge Park in Orchard Park, breeding birds still singing in the park were highlighted by 3 ACADIAN FLYCATCHERS, 3 HERMIT THRUSHES and a PINE WARBLER, plus WOOD THRUSH, BL.-THR. GREEN WARB., COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, HOODED WARBLER, SCARLET TANAGER and EASTERN TOWHEE.

 From Cattaraugus County this week - a juvenile RED-
SHOULDERED HAWK at the Valentine Flats Road parking lot at Zoar Valley. Along the south branch of Cattaraugus Creek near the Village of Cattaraugus, an unexpected DUNLIN.

Other reports - at the Wilson Piers on Lake Ontario, 2 FORSTER'S TERNS among several COMMON TERNS. RED-HEADED WDPKR. continues at the mouth of Silver Creek in Dunkirk. And in the Genesee County Town of Bethany, after a 13 year wait, 6 PURPLE MARTINS at a nest box on Francis Road. Also on Francis Road, BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO and 2 COMMON RAVENS.
