An e-mail from Don Wiens on Thursday informed me of two Stilt Sandpipers at the
Holland Landing lagoons.  I got up there this afternoon and was rewarded with
excellent scope views of four juvenile Stilts at the northern end of the second
lagoon and, upon circling back to that cell later on, marvelous looks at a
juvenile Baird's Sandpiper in the company of ten Least Sandpipers and three
Semipals at the south end.  Also present in the second cell were about two
dozen Lesser Yellowlegs, one Solitary Sandpiper, three Spotties, five Killdeer,
and two Pectoral Sandpipers.

There are still hundreds of ducks at the lagoons, the vast majority being
Blue-winged Teal (perhaps 300-400) but there are also many Green-winged Teal,
at least a dozen Northern Shovelers, several Wood Ducks, Black Ducks, and
numerous Mallards.  Interesting fly-bys today included two Pileated
Woodpeckers, a Belted Kingfisher, and one Cooper's Hawk.

A little further north and east of this location, a wet stretch of field along
Keswick's Ravenshoe Road (east of Woodbine) hosted several Great Egrets this
week.
Keith Dunn, Michele Potter and Linda Wells all reported these welcome visitors.

Holland Landing and Keswick are in York Region, north of Toronto, south of Lake
Simcoe.
The HL lagoons are at the end of Cedar Avenue, which runs east from Yonge
Street, about two kms south of the Queensville Sdrd.
