This afternoon at approximately 5:50 p.m., an immature Black-legged Kittiwake, spotted by Rob Dobos, seen by myself, Dave Don and Barry Cherriere made a pass by the Lakeland Tower at Van Wagners Beach. The bird flew in with a Ring-billed Gull and then settled on the water near the wave tower for a few minutes. The bird then got up and flew east, settling on the water again in front of Hutches. A few jaegers were seen as well today. A Parasitic Jaeger came in fairly close about 2:30 p.m.. East winds tomorrow will be another good day for birding at this location. Patience is an absolute requirement!
Cheers, Cheryl Edgecombe Directions: To reach Van Wagners Beach, take the Centennial Parkway (Hwy. 20) exit from the QEW in east Hamilton and proceed north to the North Service Rd., turn left and continue west as it turns into Van Wagners Road. Continue to the parking lots at either Hutch's Restaurant or the Lakeland Centre viewing tower and view the lake anywhere near here. Best conditions are on easterly winds. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
