Besides welcoming(!!!) a number of the cormorants back to "their" trees in the southeast corner of the wetland birds were few and far between when viewing from the Cranberry Marsh platform. Falling barometric pressure and "wrong" winds along the lakefront have either kept the raptors to the east or they are flying along the ridges to the north.
By mid-AM today(Oct.14) the wind became medium out of the NW and the BP was rising---a good sign. But incoming rain chased the observers away. I went back down for a brief time-- 8 Turkey Vultures drifted through, along with a male N.Harrier, 2 Sharp-shinned hawks and 1 Red-tailed Hawk. Around the platform at 0915EST a FIELD SPARROW (our first) and a RUSTY BLACKBIRD came in.
