Ontgullers Feeding frenzies off the Presqu'ile beach involving gulls in the thousands have yielded some good sightings today and yesterday. Single Black-legged Kittiwakes were seen at close range on both days - photos indicate that different birds were involved. Two first winter Iceland Gulls were off beach four this morning with an adult and a first winter being seen yesterday. This morning also produced an immature Lesser Black-backed Gull and yesterday a Thayer's Gull and a Nelson's Gull (Glaucous X Herring) were seen. The feeding flocks can become so frantic that observers have been wondering what they have missed. To witness this exciting spectacle, go to beach one or four and look for the maelstrom of gulls gorging themselves on bait fish. Fortunately, the Presqu'ile duck hunt does not interfere with activities based on the sand beach.
