Hey there, Just got a call from Mike Nelson, who is down at Port Stanley.
He mentions that there is a Sabine's Gull flying with Bonaparte's Gulls in the area of the outer harbour at Port Stanley. This was about 11 am today. I know basically where that is, but haven't been down there, so hopefully one can relocate this special species from the vantage point Mike had. Directions. >From the 401 take highway 4, Colonel Talbot, south, following turns through west St. Thomas, heading south to Port Stanley. At the main intersection of town of Port Stanley, at the lights, head west over the lift bridge and take the first road south, which goes past cottages, grain elevators and into a large parking area on the west side of the harbour channel, near a cement breakwall. If you walk out on the breakwall you have a view of the inner and the outer harbour. Another view of the outer harbour can be obtained from the east side of the channel. That requires driving back over the bridge and turning right at the lights heading south until you can veer off to the parking area on the east side of the channel. Not sure where Mike was viewing from, but neither the inner nor the outer part of the harbour are that far for viewing, but a telescope might really be needed. Good luck _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
