Hello Ontbirders
Terry Higgins and I enjoyed a drive today, Sunday, November 30, through the snow-laden trees of the Upper Ottawa Valley on the way to Deep River where the *male Varied Thrush* was still feeding in the yard of Harold and Connie McCall at 13 Greenwood. The Thrush is somewhat skittish so please approach the backyard cautiously and do not enter past the gate. We were able to get very good looks at the bird from the road when he was sitting in the trees. There was also a flock of about 9 Evening Grosbeaks in the trees surrounding the yard.

Also in Deep River we observed several large flocks - totalling 300 to 400 - of *Bohemian Waxwings* feeding on fruit trees on Brockhouse Way adjacent to the river. Two Northern Shrikes were seen at different locations along Highway 17 near Deep River.

Directions: Off Hwy. 417 in Deep River, turn north at the Ridge Road exit. At the first four-way stop turn left and take the first left beyond Sheridan Court at Greenwood. Harold and Connie McCall: Phone 613.584.2586. Visitors are most welcome. Deep River is located on the Ottawa River 40+ km. above Pembroke.

Happy winter birding,
Susan Goods
