Despite an absence from last week's Hamilton write-up, King Eiders (2 females) persist in Lake Ontario off the north end of Millen Ave. in Stoney Creek as of 1145 today, the 1st of December. One of the birds was relatively close to shore, swimming by herself and very easily observed. A nice bird for the first day of winter listing. Thanks to those who told us about the bird this morning and pointed it out to us immediately upon our arrival.
Directions: Millen Avenue can be accessed from the North Service Rd. of the QEW. It is located just west of Exit 83 of the QEW - Fruitland Rd. From the Fruitland exit, proceed west along the service road to the Millen Avenue access on your right, just before the Millen overpass of the QEW and service road. The bird was immediately off the terminus of the road itself. Good Birding, Chris Kimber Dept. of Biology, Queen's U.
