A flock of 56 Sandhill Crane flew from east to west about half-way between the
Visitor's Centre and the Tip at Point Pelee around 3:30 p.m. today. They kept
going out over the lake heading due west. Other birds of interest today were a
pair of Swamp Sparrow (new for the Ontario Winter list) and 1 male Red-winged
Blackbird at the turnaround at Concession Road E and Road 19, a flock of 14
American Pipit feeding along the water's edge in the Concession D ditch, at
least 3 male Northern Harrier and 1 Rough-legged Hawk flying over the marsh and
Concession Roads D, C & B.

For anyone planning on a trip to Point Pelee this week, please be aware that
Concession Road E (the Dyke Road) is under construction. One lane was open
today, but signs at both the east and west ends say the road is closed. Heavy
equipment and a large box culvert is sitting beside the road at the west end
closest to the Park entrance so construction will probably start back up on
Monday morning.
