I was not able to attend the roundup for Fisherville Christmas Bird
Count this evening but with the exceptional of early morning owling my
day was good. Lots of hawks, good lighting.
Two reportable highlights 4 Savannah Sparrow seen and photographed.
Found by Don Perks and his crew. I saw the birds around 4 pm on Link
Road at a chained back entrance to the Cayuga Speedway beside square
bails of hay. Short-eared Owls (at least 3) were in the adjoining fields.
I also saw 8 Rusty Blackbirds (also photographed) along with
Brown_headed Cowbirds and Red-winged Blackbirds at 1527 9th Line Walpole
Township feeding along the roadside on spilled corn.
Directions to Sparrows
Birds were on Link Road east of the village of Kohler on Kohler Road
(County 12) about 5 km west of the Grand River (Cayuga) on Highway 3
Directions to Blackbirds
from Hagersville - Highway 6 south towards Jarvis after 1-2 km turn
right on Sandusk Road go south 3-4 km to Ninth Line turn east (right) on
on Ninth to 1527 which is about 200 m past Cheapside Road (east of).
