Hi All, Today we (my 5-month old & I) headed up to Orillia and found the N. Hawk-Owl in it's previously reported spot on Monck Road (Cty Rd 45) about 400m west of Sideroad 20 in Ramara Twp. It was sitting atop a huge Oak tree. I passed by again 1.5 hrs later and it was in the same spot. Not much else seen with the snow blowing about today but did manage a few Wild Turkeys, 2 Northern Shrikes, a Ruffed Grouse, some Snow Buntings and a probable flock of Bohemian Waxwings (driving snow at that point, and flying away from me, but I'm 80% sure, this was just as you go into Orillia on Hwy 12 off Hwy 11). The birds were seen driving around backroads in the area between Orillia & Beaverton, to the east of Lake Simcoe.
Cheers & Good Birding, Frank Pinilla Richmond Hill, ON DIRECTIONS (to Hawk-Owl): >From the Hwy 12 South exit off Hwy 11, follow through Orillia until you see CR 44 (well signed to Casino Rama & Fern Resort), go north on 44 until CR 45 (Monck Rd), turn right and go about 5km until you reach Sdrd 20 (on the south), look for the bird in this general area, the oak that I saw the bird in was on the north side of Monck, 400m west of the Sdrd 20 intersection. -- Sent from my mobile device _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
