Hi All I'm still thawing out my toes from my walk at the Tip this morning with Mike Tate - found the Spotted Towhee live and well this morning. We first saw it in the tangle, directly east of the 42 Parallel sign and then saw it feeding right along the south side of the washroom building - there were lots of other sparrows feeding in there as well - mostly Am. Tree Sparrows, but we also picked up White-crowned Sparrow and Song Sparrow. We had a Pine Siskin and Am. Goldfinch there as well and there were three Carolina Wrens in the Tip area, actively feeding, calling and singing. We also had 4 low flying Rough-legged Hawks go over while down at the Point.
There has been a loose feeding flock of around 20 Yellow-rumped Warblers hanging around the Visitor Centre area - they are activitely feeding on the Red Cedar fruit - I've had great views at my office window - they are often right on the ground around the pond and sitting on the fence rails as well. On my way out of the park yesterday afternoon I had a nice Red-shouldered Hawk along the road north of White Pine Picnic area. I've also heard reports of Tufted Titmouse along the north edge of Hillman Marsh - when you go over the bridge, there is a small evergreen plantation and one was spoted in there. I haven't heard any further reports on the Snowy Owl in the Onion Fields north of the park - I looked for it very briefly earlier in the week and wasn't able to find it. Good birding everyone.
