While out birding with Suzan Z. in the afternoon of January 17 looking for
the Gray Partridges (which we did not find) along Maple Grove, we found what
we first thought were Pine Grosbeaks. The birds were White-winged
Crossbills, mainly males. We also saw a rather whitish bird with very pale
yellow patches and black on the wings, so we took some photos. The whitish
bird certainly looks like a White-winged Crossbill but we are not sure of
the gender. These birds were found west of the Bell-Sensplex on Maple Grove
at the City of Ottawa Maintenance Building. They were in and under the fir
trees (eating seeds from the cones) on the west side of the building between
the parking lot and the road.

If anyone would like a photo, please contact me directly.

Directions: Take Maple Grove west off Terry Fox. Maple Grove is two blocks
south of the 417 in Kanata (Ottawa).

Good birding.
