On a day trip to Ottawa today, Jerry Ball, Geoff Carpentier, Terrie Smith and I found the Varied Thrush west of Watsons Corners, at the southern end of 6th Concession A Dalhousie (off Cty Rd 8) at about 8:30 a.m.
The five Gray Partridges were found at the Ottawa Recycle Depot on Maple Grove Rd west of Terry Fox Drive. They were between the parking lot and the road under a small pine tree. The male Barrows Goldeneye continues to be present just south of the Hurdman Bridge on the Rideau River. Exit the 417 at Vanier going north, turn left at Queen Mary St and at the end turn left on North River Rd to the end. Walk to the open water by the bridge. We found one Great Gray Owl at 2:45 p.m. at the junction of Greenland Rd and Thomas A Dolan Pkwy. We did not find a Northern Hawk Owl. The bird at Grandview and Hastings has evidently not been seen for several days and nothing could be found at March Rd and Upper Dwyer Hill Rd. We found small numbers of Pine Grosbeak in several places and saw a few White-winged Crossbills on Grandview (north off Carling between March and Moodie).
