Hi,
A very dark red-tailed hawk was perched in an ash tree just north of
Harbour Road north of Oshawa Harbour. The bird was black with a few paler
feathers around the neck and on the wings and back. I mistook it for a
rough-leg until Margaret noticed a dark rusty-coloured tail on closer
examination through a scope. The bird was viewed from the back, so I don't
know what the underside looked like.
Directions. Exit 401 at Simcoe Street and go south almost to Lake Ontario.
Turn left on Harbour Road before the bridge across Oshawa Creek. Travel about
200 metres east. The bird was about 100 metres north of the road perched about
half way up a medium-sized ash tree in a loose grove in an overgrown field.
The bird was partially screened by trees, so could easily be missed.
