Greetings: Last December 27, 2007 my then 8 year old grandson pointed out a
Northern Flicker at the base of our Willow tree here in Brighton. This
morning I had a Downy, a Hairy and a Northern Flicker at the feeders.
It was real treat to see the Northern Flicker. He was once again eating the
Dove food on the deck.
We have also had large numbers of Pine Siskens, Dark eyed Juncos, a couple
of White breasted and Red breasted Nuthatches, American Goldfinch, House
Finche, a few Black Capped Chickadee, many Mourning Dove, a couple of Common
Redpoll and numerous European Starling. The Red-shouldered Hawk only visits
our back garden once or twice a month. A Sharp-shinned hawk buzzed the back
garden yesterday afternoon. There were a couple of Pine Grosbeak in the
Mountain Ash next to the garage last week. They have not been back.
All in all this winter the variety is way down but the numbers are quite
high for a couple of species this winter. An interested note about the
Mourning Dove - amongst the group that comes is one Dove that only has one
foot, the other is merely a stump. It has no problems eating and is eally
quite large.
Have a great day!
Maureen Campeau
