We visited Amherst Island yesterday afternoon and spotted a variety of birds
including: 1 rough-legged hawk; 13 red-tailed hawk; 4 kestrel; 5 northern
harrier (3 male, 2 female); 12 snow bunting; 1 red-breasted merganser (in
the ferry channel on the way to the island); 8 common merganser; 5 snowy
owls including one that followed the ferry half-way back to the mainland,
diving at a gull; 8 black-backed gull; and 20+ herring gull.
On the way there, we saw a male kingfisher sitting on the power lines next
to the Boat Warehouse in Collins Bay along Bath Road.
