Hello, Sorry for the late posting. A group of us birded owl woods on Sun Mar 1, taking the 11:30am ferry and returning at 4pm. We found (with help from other birders – thanks to everyone) 1 Boreal Owl and 2 Northern Saw-whets. There was mention from other groups of a third Saw-whet that we did not find. At the feeders were the usual suspects, no Hoary Redpolls were spotted. Rough-legged Hawks could be seen flying overhead from the path leading from the feeders to Owl Woods and someone mentioned they saw a juvenile Bald Eagle fly over as well. Note: The paths to and from Owl Woods are very icy so proceed with caution. Directions:Located 18 km. west of Kingston. Exit off Hwy. 401 at exit 593 (County Rd. 4, Camden East) and drive south to the very end (Millhaven). Turn right on Hwy. 33 and drive 100 metres until you see the sign for the Amherst Island ferry. The ferry (20 minute trip) leaves the mainland on the half hour and leaves the island on the hour. Cost is $8.00 Canadian round trip. There are no gas stations on the island. There are restrooms on the ferry and at the island ferry dock. Bart YoungPeterborough ON
